Dr. Sotiria Palioura is a board–certified ophthalmic surgeon and professor of clinical ophthalmology at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute – University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. She specializes in cornea, cataract, and ocular surface surgery. Palioura received her MD and PhD degrees from Yale University on a full scholarship. She completed her ophthalmology residency at Harvard Medical School/Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, followed by a fellowship in cornea and external diseases at the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute. Her research has been published in leading peer-reviewed journals, including Cornea, The Ocular Surface, American Journal of Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmology Science, and she is a regular presenter at national and international conferences. Palioura is also certified by the European Board of Ophthalmology (EBO) and the Eye Bank Association of America (EBAA). She serves on the cornea and education committees of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ESCRS) and has contributed her expertise to advisory panels such as the EU Horizon 2020 initiative. She is deeply committed to clinical excellence, education, and advancing research in ocular surface and corneal diseases, with a focus on collaborative innovation and equitable care.
